Kenya Tracks Chinese Group of Hackers

The law enforcement agencies claimed that they have broken the cyber crime network operated by 77 Chinese inhabitants from the posh area of state’s capital Nairobi.

The police force has opened the charges session after finding them involved in hacking and money laundery cases. The arrested Chinese nationalist will be remained under police detention for several days once the investigation concludes.

The whole situation has brought under the knowledge of Chinese officials and the embassy ensured their full cooperation for further investigation.

The cops have verified the passports of group of hackers to make sure and double check the Chinese nationality, said officials to news agency.

The crackdown set in motion after a fire occurred at Home in Rhunda estate that resulted of a person found dead.

According to Ndegwa Muhoro, Director of CID, “the initial findings reveal that the fire instance took place as a result of illegal exploitation of one of the servers.”

Moreover, other accessories like headphones, telephones and computer with internet connections were found.

The charges are based on the fact that such 77 suspects were living in the country illegally and controlling the radio equipment without any proper authorization, told AFP via private sources.

The agencies stated that the group of 77 had been gearing up to hack the communication infrastructure of the country along with certain equipments that were competent enough to infiltrating the bank accounts, ATM machines, and M-Pesa local mobile banking system, quoted by Kenya’s private newspaper.

The foreign ministry of the country called up the Chinese ambassador for discussing the entire investigation and expressed their intentions to have fully cooperation of Chinese officials on that issue, said Fred Matiang'i, communications minister. On the other hand, China pledges to provide every possible assistance till the case finishes, he added.
