Fruit from the abacateira (Persea americana Mill.), The pear-shaped
and dark green rind and creamy flesh with a single large spherical
seed. Avocado varieties better adapted to our soil and climate, are
the "Pinkerton", the "Hass".
Good source of potassium, folate and vitamin A, is rich in vitamin
E, also contains reasonable amounts of vitamins B6, C and E, iron
and magnesium. As the oil, it is rich in monounsaturated fatty
acids, which plays a role in lowering serum cholesterol levels.
Furthermore, it is the only protein rich fruit.
Originally from Central America and Mexico, it is believed lying in
Madeira since the nineteenth century from Brazil. Initially it was
used as a "shade tree", later as the fruit bowl.
