Product Description

Camellia was born in the land which produces the worlds finest tea - Sri Lanka. Previously known as
Ceylon, Sri Lanka possesses the perfect climate and soil conditions to grow this noble herb, which boasts
of a ***0 year old history.
Tea was introduced to Sri Lanka after coffee was destroyed by Coffee Leaf Rust in the *9th century.
James Taylor, a Scottish planter, established the first commercial tea plantation in ***7 at Loolkandura
Estate in Kandy District of Sri Lanka. The great success of tea planting attracted English planters and
more plantations were established, replacing former coffee fields.
Having acquired some basic knowledge in manufacturing, James Taylor experimented with tea - using
his bungalow terrace that served as a factory and tables to hand roll the leaves. Clay stoves over
charcoal fires were used for the process of firing the oxidized leaves. His first teas were popular with the
local crowd who deemed it delightful. By ***2, Taylor had a fully equipped factory, and, in ***3, his first
quality teas were sold at the London Tea Auction. Through his perseverance and passion, Taylor was
largely responsible for the early success of the Tea crop in Ceylon.
