Addis Abeba is a flourishing market for construction activities and has led the demand of construction machinery one step ahead including tower cranes and lifters, while minimizing the manual labor counts.
In accordance to Fisseha Assefa, a site manager at African Avenue which is under construction, “The trend of using cranes and lifts has increased over the last five years.”
The trend of high building construction, the company named Fisseha has acquired a lift of 100,000 Br which is used to shift the material to upper stories. The basic accessibility capacity of the lift was to hit sixth floor but with the extension cost of 6,500 Br per floor, the lift can now reaches to 12th floor in a row.
The involvement of tower cranes in any construction site is a common phenomenon. Tower cranes are considered as an imperative fixture in boosting out the construction development and mitigating the level of manual labors, as it can bear the weight of almost 4 tonnes,” stated Kebede Bogale, operator of tower crane at African Avenue site.
The local Sunshine Construction Plc has traded two tower cranes from Dubai with having a cost of 1 million BR. Similarly, Kebede Company using single tower crane for working in their four projects while, the other constructions are in progress such as Marriott Hotel and Bole Medhanialem Church where tower cranes will be used to undertake the construction process.
Samuel Taffesse, Director General of Sunshine Construction Plc said, “A tower crane is enough to perform the work of 50 workers alone.”
Inevitably, tower cranes is the core essence in enhancing the construction process and mitigating the men power as much as 200pc, but they are costly as well, said Rama Construction Plc, private held construction company. That is the reason why majority of the construction businesses prefer lift over tower cranes.
Moreover, to operate the tower crane in different projects is crucial as making use of labors to transmit heavy material on high building is equivalent to unsafe and wastage of time.
