“Every government has different preferences for commencing their actions and approach but the major orbit is to achieve the global objective i.e. encouraging manufacturing industry in western countries,” said to Jan Grashuis, vice president of global research and development for VMI Holland B.V.

In US, it is called as the Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition, whereas in Germany, it is denoted by Industrie 4.0 and in Netherland which is the mainland for inventing VMI machines, declared similar program as the Smart Industry. Whether these names get contrary from place to place, the motto is to provide elasticity in volume and configuration, meet the customer’s desires, and enhance the level of efficacy in order to mitigate the overall costs.

Grashuis expressed that, “The trend is where production comes back to the Western World and production is less dependent on the cost of labor nowadays.” He conveyed his viewpoint in the presentation conducted on “Modernizing Production Machinery to Gain Efficiency, Quality and Reduce Wastage,” during the International Tire Exhibition & Conference.

VMI is considered as the leading vendor of tire manufacturing machineries however, some of the weak areas that need to be improved involve increasing the quality during cutting; alongside reducing the overall manufacturing cost of each tire. He said, “And the steps you need to do that in China are different than they are in Japan or in Europe or in the U.S.”

VMI started to make an experiment along with its R&D team by producing a tire and evaluate how all the steps incur during the process augmented to manufacture the price of each tire, involving miscellaneous expenses such as transportation and storage. According to VMI’s spokesperson, “We want to understand if we change something to the machine or add something to the machine, and then what that does to the total cost of the tire. We tend to create such machinery that will provide easiness to customers to generate earning in their setting.”

The architects of the machinery wishes to get knowledge regarding each and every manufacturing process with other items which include mixing and calendaring, other than what exactly the VMI produces.
